It’s a light day in the NHL with a mere two games scheduled. With both games being relatively lopsided odds-wise, we’ll try to find some value in a hotly contested Central Division rivalry.

Nashville Predators (+160) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (-186)
These two teams arrive back in Raleigh with the series knotted 2-2. After charging out of the gates, the Hurricanes have dropped two straight in overtime to their divisional foe.
Much of the reason Nashville has been able to hang around in this series is due to the play of goaltender Juuse Saros. The current owner of a 2.52 GAA and 1.3 GSAA, Saros has faced a bevy of shots in the first four games but has kept his team within striking distance.
In the other crease, Alex Nedeljkovic has been nearly as good for the ‘Canes with a 2.13 GAA and 0.9 GSAA. If not for a few untimely defensive errors in front of him, his numbers may even be better, as he has been tremendous thus far.
Let’s dig deeper and analyze the metrics from Game 4 below.
Metrics 5v5 this season:
Number’s courtesy of Natural Stat Trick:
CF%: 36.57 (NSHH 63.43 (CAR)
xGF: 2.75 (NSH) 3.89 (CAR)
xGF%: 41.4% (NSH) 58.6 (CAR)
Statistically, the Hurricanes had a significant edge in all the above categories. Their possession numbers were otherworldly and, if not for the hot play of Saros, should have won this game handily.
This team is struggling due to slow offensive starts from Andrei Svechnikov, Teuvo Teravainen, and Martin Necas, as the trio has combined for only three goals.
Additionally, Dougie Hamilton has only contributed one assist from the blueline, unlike his play-driving self. As the ‘Canes return home, I’ll look for them to reign in their defensive play and the aforementioned players to find their offensive game.
Pick: Carolina Hurricanes in Regulation (-112)
